CROA Compliance Disclosure
This page explains our legal status under the Credit Repair Organizations Act and the prohibited practices we do not engage in.
What Is a Credit Repair Organization?
The Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA), 15 U.S.C. §1679 et seq., defines a "credit repair organization" as any person who uses interstate commerce to sell, provide, or perform any service for the purpose of improving a consumer's credit record in exchange for the payment of money or other valuable consideration.
CROA imposes significant obligations on credit repair organizations, including prohibited advance fees, required disclosures, a 3-day right of cancellation, and written contracts. Violations carry civil liability and potential criminal penalties.
Why credit-repair.org Falls Outside the CROA Definition
credit-repair.org does not fall within the CROA definition for the following reasons:
- No consumer payment. We charge consumers nothing. All tools and content are free. The CROA definition requires "payment of money or other valuable consideration" from the consumer. Because we take no consumer payment, the trigger condition does not exist.
- No service performance on behalf of consumers. Our tools generate documents and calculations. The consumer acts on their own behalf — they send their own letters, file their own disputes, make their own decisions. We never contact any credit bureau, creditor, debt collector, or other party on behalf of any consumer.
- Software publisher, not service provider. We are an education and software publisher. Publishing software tools that help consumers exercise rights they already hold under the FCRA and FDCPA is not providing a credit repair service — it is analogous to publishing a legal self-help book.
We are not a Credit Repair Organization under CROA and do not claim to be. If you believe a feature of this site brings us within the CROA definition, please contact us immediately at chadananda@gmail.com.
Prohibited Activities We Do Not Engage In
Regardless of our legal status, we voluntarily comply with the spirit of CROA and the following activities are prohibited on this platform:
- No advance fees. We collect no money from consumers before, during, or after any service.
- No guaranteed outcomes. We make no guarantee of score increases, item removals, or credit improvement results. All tool outputs are estimates based on public rules and your inputs.
- No false representations. We do not claim we can remove accurate, verifiable, and current negative information from credit reports.
- No acting on your behalf. We do not contact credit bureaus, creditors, or debt collectors for consumers. All letters generated by our tools are for the consumer to send personally.
- No identity creation schemes. We do not advise consumers to create a new identity (new SSN, CPN/credit privacy number schemes) or misrepresent identity to obtain credit.
- No advice to make false statements. We do not advise consumers to dispute accurate information or make false statements to credit bureaus or creditors.
How to Report Concerns
If you believe a business is operating as a credit repair organization in violation of CROA, you can report it to:
- Federal Trade Commission (FTC): reportfraud.ftc.gov — The FTC enforces CROA and handles complaints about fraudulent credit repair companies.
- Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB): consumerfinance.gov/complaint — File complaints about financial products and services, including credit repair.
- Your state attorney general: Most state AGs have consumer protection divisions that handle CROA violations under state law analogs.
